Shanmukhananda Fine Arts & Sangeetha Sabha has a unique history of an unbroken run since
April 1975, successfully working towards its unproclaimed aim and objective, to be an
instrument of education and promoting excellence in Fine Arts. The journal ranks high in
cultural and intellectual circles, attracting researchers both in India and abroad and
comfortably nestling itself in its due place, in the Literature of Music and Fine Arts.
SHANMUKHA
propagates the values and ideals and cultural aspects in music, dance
and drama.
• First Editors : Shri. K. S. Mahadevan & Dr. (Smt.) Sulochana Rajendran
• Shanmukha celebrated its silver jubilee on 14th May 2000. Shri. Govind Swarup,
Secretary, Cultural Affairs, Government of Maharashtra released the silver jubilee
commemoration volume. Shri. Subbudu, Art critic and the Editors Shri. K. S.
Mahadevan & Dr. (Smt.) Sulochana Rajendran were honoured on the occasion.
• A special volume on Bharat Ratna Dr. M. S. Subbulakshmi was brought out
on the occasion of the commencement of the Centenary celebrations of
Dr. M. S. Subbulakshmi on 14.9.2015. It was released by Shri. E. S. L. Narasimhan,
Hon’ble Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
• Shanmukha was awarded a Certificate of Merit for being selected in the top
100 meritorious in-house magazines by the ICE Awards 2015 which promotes
internal communication.
• Music related articles of Shanmukha have been abstracted and indexed in the
bibliographic database of scholarly literature on music of “Rilm Abstracts Of
Music Literature”. The journal thus has been acknowledged internationally as
containing scholarly literature on music.
• Eminent musicologist Dr. N. Ramanathan has uploaded the scanned issues of
Shanmukha from 1978 onwards on the website www.musicresearchlibrary.net ->

The Golden Jubilee of“SHANMUKHA” would be celebrated in 2025. Over these
50 golden years it has progressed from an inhouse journal to a widely respected
cultural magazine.
SHANMUKHA won the
Silver
Trophy
under the category of external magazine, for its issues for the year 2013,
in a contest organized by the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI). (ABCI is
an autonomous body which encourages communicators under various categories and recognizes
their contribution every year.) This was the first time that the Sabha had sent its entry and
among 27 entries, Shanmukha bagged the Silver Trophy in its maiden appearance.
